Amey's Taxi has equipped its 70-vehicle fleet with Mobile Data Computers (MDCs) from Mentor Engineering and implemented the Mentor IntelliFleet Dispatch Software Suite.

For Mark Greenwood, owner of Amey's Taxi, the goal of this technology remains simple: "to increase business by better responding to customers."

Taxis equipped with mobile data computers are steadily becoming an industry standard. Mark, who is no stranger to innovation, switched to Mentor's systems after using another dispatch software provider. Mark spoke to other taxi owners before deciding on Mentor, and when comparing Mentor to competitors states, "these MDCs are tougher and Mentor's support better."

The MDC is highly rugged and has numerous standard and optional features, including an eight-line graphical display, built-in GPS receiver, emergency key, covert microphone, internal smart/credit card, external debit card reader, internal public data or private radio modem, and integrated taximeter.

Working with the MDC is IntelliFleet software, which includes a modularly designed automated dispatch system. Inspired by the experiences of a large taxi organization, IntelliFleet was created for efficiency and ease of use by dispatchers, call takers, drivers, and administrators. IntelliFleet helps ensure fair trip distribution by matching trips to vehicles using a rotating system.

The MDC and IntelliFleet combination facilitates real-time messaging between drivers and dispatchers and automates data collection. Because the system frees dispatchers from having to constantly communicate with drivers over the radio, time is used more efficiently.

"We will really see the results once the system is fully up and running," concludes Mark. And, although the system is still new, one important benefit has already been realized-"the vehicle mileage has been reduced."
