CALGARY, AB — June 9, 2010

Mentor Engineering is proud to be a mobile computing technology provider to Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) award recipient Paducah Area Transit System (PATS). On May 25, 2010 CTAA named Paducah Area Transit of Paducah, Kentucky as the 2010 Rural Community Transportation System of the year.

Recognized for excellence in serving the needs of people in their communities and improving service to its passengers, Paducah Area Transit has used their vehicles to evacuate and shelter local bomb-scare, flooding and ice storm victims. The organization also led the development of a collaborative travel management coordination center that combines the services of four transportation providers in western Kentucky.

The travel management coordination center organizes transportation needs and travel requests for the transportation agencies. Together, they provide 700,487 coordinated public and human service agency trips annually, and use ITS technology to make this possible.

A centralized computer network uses Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), Computer-Aided Scheduling and Dispatching (CASD), and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) to improve dispatch efficiency, ease customer access and enable coordination and resource sharing between the agencies. The centralized computer network communicates with all agency vehicles through in-vehicle mobile computers provided by Mentor Engineering.

The system has created innovative mobility partnerships with local veterans' groups, senior citizens and people with disabilities. Whatever need arises in Paducah, local residents can be sure that Paducah Area Transit stands ready to respond.
