Toronto Co-Op Cabs
Improving Customer and Driver Satisfaction
Challenges
Long time users of Mentor's rugged in-vehicle computers, Toronto's Co-Op Cabs needed an electronic dispatching system to accommodate increasing call volumes, respond quickly to customer complaints, track the exact location of drivers, and distribute rides fairly among their 470-vehicle fleet.
Solution
Co-Op Cabs implemented Mentor IntelliFleet®, an automated taxi dispatch system specifically designed to deal with day-to-day operational realities of taxi organizations. When a customer calls to request a pickup, the system detects the caller's phone number and address, and instantly fills in that information on the call-taker's screen. Calls are then automatically offered to the most eligible driver. This modularly designed software suite will grow with Co-Op Cabs as their needs change.
Results
One of the biggest benefits IntelliFleet brings to Co-Op cabs is having a cab stand system. Now when drivers book into a service zone, the system captures this information and automatically selects the closest available taxi to the waiting customer, speeding service.
Peter Zahakos, General Manager of Co-Op Cabs, says IntelliFleet benefits his organization in other areas, such as reporting. "Reporting is made very simple and I can pull up a report for almost anything that happens, which lets me better manage my staff and drivers. If a driver has a complaint, I can pull up the report for verification. It's a minute-by-minute complete history of events."
Co-Op Cabs also operates a paratransit fleet, and they plan to implement the newest module of IntelliFleet, IntelliRouter, in the near future. IntelliRouter transfers paratransit riders requiring less support to taxis by sending details such as the pick-up location directly to the appropriate taxi, while managers can monitor rides in real-time, automatically price rides according to the service provided, and generate daily trip reports.
"IntelliFleet helps us grow as an organization because it's stable and it works," says Peter.
