Mobile Technology Helps Taxi Company Thrive
Challenges Mayfair Taxi, with their 75-vehicle fleet, has been able to excel in Calgary's competitive taxi market due to their willingness to do what it takes to "keep up with the big guns." A frequent target of credit card fraud, Mayfair looked for an electronic dispatching system that included in-vehicle computers to solve this problem and improve organizational efficiencies.
Solution In the office, Mayfair implemented Mentor IntelliFleet®, an automated dispatching system designed specifically for the taxi industry. The system addressed MayFair's primary goal of reducing credit card fraud by immediately verifying cards in the vehicle using the wireless network. IntelliFleet was paired with Mentor's Mobile Data Computers (MDCs) in the vehicles. To handle the anticipated increase in daily trips, Mayfair had already implemented the IntelliClerk module of IntelliFleet, which is a driver accounts management system that helps streamline the stand rent process.
Results Since implementing this Mentor solution, Mayfair has noted improvements from increased efficiency to reduced credit card fraud. Since the IntelliFleet system automates the call-taking and dispatching process, calls that used to take up to five minutes to process now take as little as five seconds. "Every day it amazes me how fast this system is," says Len Bellingham, President and Owner of Mayfair. "The system speeds up the time from when the phone rings to when the information is sent to the car so much that it's unbelievable." The decrease in call-taking time has also led to less radio noise, resulting in a quieter and less stressful work environment.
